Newsletter #1
How open is your classroom?
Hello! The last few months I have been adjusting to an increased workload in my teaching practice, which included larger class sizes, more subjects to teach, and more professional development courses to take. I have been reflecting on how to leverage what I've been doing in my classes, what I've seen researching, and what I've been learning overall into a more informative and hopefully useful newsletter to share with those who are interested. In terms of the newsletter publication schedule, you can expect more in the future, and in terms of the structure of the newsletter, you'll likely see changes as well as I continue to find my way. My intention has always been to make my own teaching and learning more transparent in hopes that others will reciprocate. So, if any of the topics included in this newsletter interest you or you have specific experiences or topics you'd like to see covered in greater detail, please reach out to me via any of my socials listed below.
Reading Class Group as Open System chapter in Sampson's (2016), Complexity in classroom foreign language learning motivation: A practitioner perspective from Japan, where Sampson mentions how multiple influences emerge as English language learners flow from different speech communities and situational interactions that take place in and outside of the classroom experience.
How open is your classroom (e.g., lectures, content, learning outcomes, etc.)?
Here is a recent session with English language teacher trainers (and learners) who completed the first draft and are working on making final edits to an academic text.
